Broadband Access Map
This map, based on data for December 2016 submitted by Internet providers to the Federal Communications Commission, shows the percentage of households in each Census tract that had “fixed Internet access connections” at download speeds of 10 Mbps or faster. Tracts are color-coded in ranges of twenty percentage points, e.g. 20% to 39.9%.
The term “fixed connections” includes cable modem, DSL, fiber to the home, satellite and fixed wireless services. It does not include mobile wireless devices.
Pointing a mouse at any tract displays an information windows which identifies the tract, along with:
- the tract’s individual poverty rate in 2016, and
- the smallest number of households in the tract lacking 10 Mbps fixed connections that is consistent with the data.
